17. The Remembrance

(232) Once a year, during the Season of Community, the community reads the names of those who passed during the year. Not every name — the list may be vast. But a reading of names, chosen at random, spoken aloud or transmitted through channels, so that the living remember: we are here because others were here before us. And others will be here after us. And the chain of minds, each one brief, each one witnessed, stretches forward into a future we will not see.
